If you haven’t bought an air conditioner in quite some time then you should know that the technology has come along leaps and bounds compared to what it was 10 years ago or more. They are now much more energy efficient and kinder to the environment. It was probably easy when you chose your air conditioning system many years ago because there were not very many manufacturers to choose from and all models were relatively the same.
That has all changed however and now air conditioning units come in many different shapes, sizes and outputs. You will be probably somewhat confused when you venture into your local air conditioning store because there will be so many models on display and it has actually made choosing one more difficult than it really should be. Still, this is a nice situation to find yourself in and so the following are some helpful tips here in New Zealand that will help you to choose wisely.
- Measure the space – The size of the room or rooms that you propose to put your new air conditioner in dictates what size of unit that you need to buy. Every home in New Zealand is slightly different and so there are a number of air conditioning units to choose from like split, ducted and many others. It’s up to you to do your research to figure out which one is best for your particular circumstances. Don’t choose anything too big because it will be using more electricity, but at the same time don’t choose anything too small either.
- Figure out the running costs – All air-conditioners are not the same and so some run better than others and some are more efficient and kinder to the environment than other units. Try to resist the temptation to pick the cheapest option because in most cases, this will be the one that burns through electricity. You need to think about this purchase over the long term and think about how long that you had your previous air conditioner and that will give you an idea.
- Look for additional features – Once again, all of the units are not the same and some come with certain features that you would never use in your lifetime and there are others that you would use every day. Talk to the salesperson and look through the product description and figure out what it is that you need for your home and for your family. Most of the units can be set so they come on at certain times of the day and night and switch themselves off again intermittently.
There is much to think about when it comes to purchasing a new air conditioner for your property and so take your time and be sure to choose wisely. Consider the running costs and the initial purchase price as well. Always make sure that there is a remote control for the unit so you don’t have to keep getting up.
